The Final Days of EIR.

Metaphor time!
During the first day of EIR, i was 'Drowning in the sea' as i was clueless about what i was going to learn during these 8 days. But, as the days went on, i had a clearer picture of what Effective Internet Research is all about. I must say that all i have learnt during these 8 days will be applied during my 3 years in Temasek Poly. With all these skills equipped, i would definately have an upper hand compared to the other non-dpa students. I must thank all my new found friends and Ms Faridah. they have helped me throughout these cramped 8 days. I will definately miss this class when the school term starts. !

Blogs and Twitter

Blogs are a good way for people to express themselves. Last time people used to write in their journals or diaries, now, they are being replaced with blogs as blogs are easier to access and it is also faster to type out your journal/diary entry. you can either set your blog to private or public to let people read your posts which is a good feature. However blogs can also be a source of cyber bullying which can result in conflicts.

Twitter...from what i heard, it is very popular in the american countires. i myself haven't really tried it before so i wouldn't know how it functions. But what i heard from my friends tells me that this social networking site is really essential in some people's lives. they will 'tweet' what ever they do from somthing like...' I need to pee ' to..... ' haha! i just saw a boy fall down '.
For myself, i found all of these things to not be important and i would rather stick to the normal SMS and MMS.

Citizen Journalism

1 thing that comes to mind when i see the phrase 'citizen journalism' is STOMP. Straits Times Online Mobile Print, is Asia's leading citizen-journalism website with user-generated material fuelling its success. This means that anyone can post news whether its real or not. Therefore this site isn't professional in any way. I personally think that citizen journalism is a bad idea because it invades people's privacy. Even pointless news like 'guy to engrossed with psp game forgots to zip his pants' have been posted on to the site. Pointless news like this should not have to be posted as it will only lead to humiliation instead of benefitting anyone

My Dream Holiday.

I have always dreamed of going to GoldCoast Australia! My friends tell me that the theme parks over there (eg. DreamWorld) is huge and full of thrilling rides.
This is the Tower Of Terror!
The Tower's electro-magnetically powered 'Escape Pod' accelerates its passengers to a massive 160 kph in seven seconds before it climbs to almost 38 storeys high. One of the rides i have always wanted to go on since my friend who went there told me a few years ago told me about.
Well, this is the only reason i have been wanting to go to Australia haha. Unfortunately, my family and i can't afford to go there anytime soon. Therefore, i have to work hard, get hold of a high paying job! Then i will bring my whole family there for a long deserved holiday.

The invisible web

The "visible web" is what you can find using general web search engines. It's also what you see in almost all subject directories. The "invisible web" is what you cannot find using these types of tools. Invisible web will let us obtain alot more information then general search engines. this is extremely usefull for serious researchers who want to dig in deeper into their research topic.

In my opinion, the invisible web is extremely useful for my research topic and i will use this to add in information on my topic in the eir-wiki!

Meta search, subject directory, site feeding and wiki

Meta search can be useful when you don't want to search the same thing from multiple search engines. It compiles similar results from a few search engines and displays it in one or a few pages. Thats the advantage. The disadvantage is that it may not be as accurate as you want it to be and most of the time there will be irrelavant results.

I also learnt how to do site feeding. i linked some of my friends to my blog using the atom feed. Now there are links on my blog that will bring you people to my friend's blogs! This is very useful in my opinion as people can blog surf without having to type in any blog addresses.

google, forum citations.

In my opinion, google is a very brief and simple search engine which is good for simple research. However, if one wishes to dig deeper into a significant topic, google would not be of much help. Instead, the invisible web a.k.a the deep web would be much more helpful. The advanced search in my opinion is very helpful if you want to find more accurate results. However, it may still not be as accurate as you want it to be.

Alse, i learnt how to do some citations. I think that citations are very troublesome and a waste of time. But oh well, they are compulsory if you don"t want to get caught for copyright infringement

Here are some citations i did.

hi

hi guys im iman but u can call me man for short. im in game and entertainment technology.
i like to swim and play electric guitar which i just picked up a couple of years ago. I listen to pop, punk, punk rock and sometimes power metal songs but not those screamo types haha. some bands i like to listen to are breaking benjamin, sum41, boys like girls, iron saviour. I also love to watch tv. i love comedy shows like whose line is it anyway, my name is earl and such.

I don't hangout much but when i do, i like to slack at beaches and parks with my friends. we also window shop in malls and hangout at the arcades where we waste our money playing games. i usually facebook most of the time and watch random vids on youtube. i also like to visit game sites like miniclip and such.

I'm passionate about guitaring. been playing for around 2 years now but not very good at it yet. For those who wanna try, i suggest to join a guitar class as it is a good way to learn all the theories and stuff. you could try to learn by yourself too but it would take longer and would be harder to find someone to guide you. some sites that can be useful are ultimate-guitar.com and guitartutee.com they provide tabs and lessons.

k thats all for now!
